Botulinum therapy is a subcutaneous (mesobotox) or intramuscular (classical) injection of cosmetic suspension containing group A botulinum toxin. The suspension acts exclusively on the muscles, blocks neuromuscular transmission of impulses, relaxes muscle hypertonicity and thus smooths mimic wrinkles. Nutrition and blood supply to tissues and muscle fibers are not disturbed. Botulinum toxin A also inhibits hyperhidrosis (sweating). Suppression of neuromuscular transmission of impulses is temporary and is restored after 6-8 months.
